5th March 2007 : Laem Pak Bia and Ban Pak Thale, Phetchaburi Province

We (Jan and Tu) went bird watching with Lorand, a Hungarian birder from Australia , at Laem Pak Bia and Ban Pak Thake in Phetchaburi Province about 110 km from Bangkok. Lorand's target birds are Spoon-billed Sandpiper , Nordmann's Greenshank and Malaysian Plover.

We started birding early in the morning. The first birds we sighted were 31 Nordmann's Greenshank. Very..very lucky! This is the biggest group we have found this year. Then we moved into Ban Pak Thale to look for Spoon-billed Sandpipers. We got one bird. We went to Laem Pak Bia by boat to see Malaysian Plover. We found both males and females. And others birds that we found on this trip were the Heuglin's Gull , Pallas's Gull , Greater and Lesser Crested Tern , Caspian Tern , Sanderling , Common Greenshank , Marsh Sandpiper , Red-necked Stint , Long-toed Stint , Pacific Golden Plover etc.

Started birding early morning
It's a very good day indeed since we managed to get all the target birds in half a day. We drove back for lunch in Phetburi town and Lorand went on to bird in Kaeng Kracha National Park by himself.
