9th -21st March 2008 : Bangkok, Klong Sang Wildlife Sanctuary, Kaeng Krachan and Khao Yai National Park.

9th March 08
Today Bill and Susan took flight from Siem Reap to Bangkok in evening. And Ben will join us on 16th Mar.

10th March 08
Morning we went to binocular shop to find a binocular for Ben. Because his binocular lost from Susan's bag in Cambodia. After lunch continue to Vimanmek Palace. The world's largest golden teakwood mansion. It's built in the reign of King Rama V. We walked around the mansion and visited many rooms inside mansion in different colors. How the beautiful it is!. Evening we went to see Thai puppets show at Traditional Thai Puppet Theater (Joe Louis).

11th March 08
Early morning Bill and Susan had an appointment with a doctor at Wat Rai Khing. They interested in health care in Thailand for poor people. After lunch we took flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani province and stayed overnight at Grand Diamond hotel.

12th March 08
After breakfast we headed towards Ratchaprapa dam and took a big boat to Klong Sang Wildlife Sanctuary about 2 hours from port.

We stayed on the floating house at Klong Yha substation and we had to use boat to go everywhere. Klong Sang Wildlife Sanctuary was the same forest with Khao Sok National Park and it's a paradise for animals. After lunch took a rest and started birding and mammals watching again in the evening.

The simple food here was very fresh fishes in fried, deep fried, spicy soup and streamed and they're very delicious. Our boat driver his name is Chana he knew the place that we can see Gaurs in the evening and we found 10 Gaurs feeding grass near the lake. We think they can see us but they can not smell us so they still feeding the grass when the wind changed they ran into the forest very fast. Wonderful !!. And we found White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Osprey, Dollarbird, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-capped, Stork-billed and Common Kingfisher.

13th-14th March 08
We started an early morning to birds and mammals watching and came back to our floating house for lunch and took a rest and started again in evening. It'd some groups stayed with us they came here for fishing some guys're from Japan. In front our house's a big lake you can swim, took a bath (Suzie tried to take a bath in Thai Style, it's very fun.) but if you need the toilet you had to walk into the forest they had a small basic toilet.Night safari we started about 8 o'clock in evening.

Today we found Sambars, Barking Deers, Long-taile Macaques, Lesser Mouse-Deer, Wild pigs, Banded and Dusky Langurs, White-handed Gibbons, Snake crossed the lake, Gaurs, Buffy Fish-Owls and Large-tailed Nightjar.

15th March 08
Today we birds watched half day we found Oriental Pied Hornbills're nesting, Great and Helmeted Hornbill, Black-thighed Falconet, Grey-headed Fish-Eagles, Ospreys, and White-bellied Sea-Eagle.

After lunch we continued to our hotel in Surat Thani, took a rest and flighted back Bangkok in next morning.
16th March 08
After arrival from Surat Thani we continued to pick up Suzie'skirts at Tailor shop in Bangkok and then went to Suvarnbhumi airport to pick Ben up and headed towards Kaeng Krachan National Park.

17th March 08
We started an early morning and changed our van to use 4WD pick-up car because it's not very good road when we drove up the mountain, the summit of Kaeng Krachan National Park.

The first bird that we saw was Large-tailed Nightjar, it's sitting on dry leaves beside the road and it's very difficult to find it because it's very similar between color of its body and dry leaves.(It's still dark.) We're birding all day with packed breakfast and lunch. Some birds started to make a nest liked Long-tailed Broadbills, Tickell's Brown Hornbill and along the way to the summit had many banana tree with flowers so we stopped and waited for 2 species of Spiderhunters; Little and Streaked Spiderhunter're feeding at the banana flowers.

We birds watched around camping area at the summit we found Red-headed Trogon, White-browed Scimitar-Babbler, Hill Blue Flycatcher, Golden-fronted Leafbird, Red-bearded Bee-eater, Banded Bay Cuckoo, Ashy Minivet and many others.

18th March 08
We birds watched in lower area at first substation of Kaeng Krachan National Park "Ban Krang" camp. It's very nice view with Dusky Langurs walked, ran, climbed up and down trees at camp ground. And we found Asian Barred Owlet, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Orange-breasted Trogon, Grey-rumped Treeswift, Dusky Broadbill, Emerald Dove and many others. After lunch we continued to Khao Yai National Park and check into Juldis hotel near the park entrance.

19th March 08
Early morning started and birding all day. We found many bird photographers here they came to take pictures of Blue-and-White Flycatcher, Collered Owlet and White-troated Rock Thrush so we walked follows them to see birds.

In the afternoon it'd some rain so we took a rest until the rain stopped then we sat in a hide at Pha Kloay Mai or Orchid camp ground for waiting Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo. We got it !!. It walked from the forest and walked in front our hide very close about 5 minutes. Siberian Blue Robin stayed in the same place. When we walked out from our hide we got some leeches because it'd some rain in the afternoon, rain waked leeches up again.

20th March 08
Bird watched half day in Khao Yai National Park and backed to Bangkok for Thai Puppets show again before Ben took a flight back to USA.

21st March 08
Morning we visited Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew were built in the reign of King Rama I. Afternoon we looked for some souvenirs and camera equipment. Ben flighted to USA midnight, Bill and Suzie flighted in next morning.
