10th -20th February 2008 : Kaeng Krachan and Doi Inthanon National Park,
Doi Ang Khang, Doi Lang and Chiang Saen Lake.

10th Feb 08
After the arrival of three Finnish bird watchers, we headed towards Phetchaburi province to look for waders in Laem Pak Bia and Ban Pak Thale areas. We found 4 Spoon-billed Sandpipers, Long-toed Stint, Red-necked Phalarope, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Pacific Golden Plover, Great Knot, Marsh Sandpiper and many others at Ban Pak Thale. It's very nice view of them. After lunch we took a boat to Laem Pak Bia where 6 Malaysian Plovers and one White-faced Plover were feeding on sand bar and many others such as Sanderling, Pallas's Gull, Heuglin's Gull, Greater and Lesser Crested Terns, Pacific Reef Egret, Greater and Lesser Sand Plovers.  Then we continued to Kaeng Krachan National Park in the evening and stopped on the way to find some raptors before checking into our bungalow outside the park. The total birds that we found today were 97 species.

11th - 12th Feb 08
We started early in the morning driving up the mountain "Paneon Thung" camp, the summit of Kaeng Krachan National Park. It's not very good road, only 4WD car could be used to reach the summit. We're birding in the park area for two days with packed breakfast and lunch.

13th Feb 08
Today we drove up to the first substation "Ban Krang". This area had different species of birds from Paneon Thung. After lunch we continued to Don Muang Airport in Bangkok to take a flight to Chiangmai province in the evening.   We arrived Chiangmai about 21.00 and checked into Cha Tho Hotel in Chiangmai town.

14th Feb 08
After breakfast we headed to Mae Hia Training Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Chiangmai University. This area was open area mixed with paddyfields. We found Yellow-legged Buttonquail, Wire-tailed Swallow, Pied Bushchat, and Green Bee-eaters (nesting) and many others. After lunch we continued to Doi Inthanon National Park about 2.5 hours from Chiangmai town.

Our Finnish colleagues met their friends "Passi and Noinha" at Mr.Deang shop, the birding center of Doi Inthanon. They're very happy and invited their friends to go birding together. Around Mr.Daeng shop we found Lesser Shortwing, Dark-sided Thrush and Siberian Blue Robin. We checked into Khun Wang bungalow in the evening.

15th -16th Feb 08 

Early in the mornings, we started at Doi Inthanon second check point and then continued to the summit to do birding around the summit area and Ang Kha trail. Birds in this area were active all days, including Green-tailed Sunbirds feeding on nectar of Fuchsia flower, Rufous-throated Partridge, very nice view of Snowy-browed Flycatcher at the entrance of Ang Kha trail and many species of warblers. Afternoon we walked into Jeep Track trail at the second check point, we found Blue Whistling Thrush, Black-hooded and Maroon Oriole, Wedge-tailed Pigeon, Black-eared Shrike Babbler, Spectacled Barwing and many others.

17th Feb 08
An early morning started at the lower area of Doi Inthanon at Wachirathan Waterfall where we found Black-backed Forktails, Collared Falconet, Bay and Grey-capped Woodpeckers, Dusky, Two-barred and Yellow-browed Warblers. After lunch we continued to Doi Ang Khang and checked into Ban Luang Resort.

18th Feb 08

Birding all day in Doi Ang Khang, we found Black-breasted, Scaly and Eyebrowed Thrushes, Common Blackbird, Maroon Oriole, River Chat, Spot-breasted Parrotbill and many others.

19th Feb 08
Early in the morning, we drove to Doi Lang in Thaton district about 2 hours from Doi Ang Khang. Doi Lang was new bird-watching site where we could see very rare birds of the high mountains such as Cutia and Black-throated Tit but we missed them. We found Grey-capped, Stripe-breasted and Crimson-breasted Woodpeckers, Large Hawk Cuckoo, Long-tailed Broadbills, Eyebrowed Thrush, Siberian Rubythroat and many others.

After lunch we headed to Chiang Saen Lake and we still had time before dark to go to Mae Khong river to see Small Pratincoles, Jerdon's Bushchat, Citrine Wagtail, Plain Martin and River Lapwing. We checked into Viang Yonok Hotel near Chiang Saen Lake in evening.

20th Feb 08
After birding half day in Chiang Saen Lake, We found more birds such as Baillon's Crake, Purple Swamphen, Common Moorhen, and Black-browed Reed Warbler.

And then we headed towards Chiangmai town for dinner before taking our flight back to Bangkok and then some of us continued to Finland at midnight. In total, we saw 368 species of birds.
